As a film reviewer, I have found recalibrating halfway through the year to be quite useful. I typically blow through 10 to 20 movies that I had no intention of viewing in a theater (along with a few movies that I’ve missed during their theatrical runs), to readjust my standards and get a better sense of the year in movies. This has the side-effect of radically skewing the curve on my grading scale, but that the slate of fall/winter prestige and art flicks usually nudges everything back to normal.

This year’s docket is:

  1. Texas Chainsaw 3d
  2. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
  3. Broken City
  4. Mama
  5. The Last Stand
  6. John Dies at the End
  7. Movie 43
  8. Bullet to the Head
  9. Stand Up Guys
  10. Identity Thief
  11. Beautiful Creatures
  12. The Host
  13. Safe Haven
  14. Jack the Giant Slayer
  15. Dead Man Down
  16. Emperor
  17. Oz: The Great and Powerful
  18. The Call
  19. Welcome to the Punch
  20. Admission
  21. Olympus Has Fallen
  22. GI Joe: Retaliation
  23. Evil Dead
  24. Oblivion
  25. Scary Movie 5
  26. 42
  27. Pain & Gain
  28. Mud (if I can find it)
  29. In the House (if I can find it)
  30. post tenebras lux (if I can find it)
  31. The Great Gatsby (hopefully in a theater, 3D)
